Are you an experienced Software System Architect and would you like to contribute to the energy transition? This position at Grid to great might be the job for you. You will be responsible for the development and architecture of our software. Together with a team of agile developers you are innovating and improving our real-time software and embedded software. You will innovate our current systems and architecture and will develop and set up new structures. Thanks to your and the teams contributions, we are ready for tomorrows challenges on the energy grid.
While the energy transition is gaining momentum, increasingly higher demands are being placed on our energy grid. We believe there is a need for a different approach to substation automation. One that uses less equipment and less manhours to implement and maintain. One that generates data on which operators can balance and protect their highly dynamic grids.
Our current first generation centralized solutions are running at Ellevio, National Grid, Liander and many more companies. We are now in the process of creating a whole new product line with new sensors and new software. As our products are part of our society’s vital infrastructure, the pressure is on quality, real-time and seamless combination with our hardware and the industry standards. In a team of five colleagues you are working on the solutions of tomorrow and you’re making sure that the customer needs are translated into technical solutions.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Compose and design the architecture of our system, including substation server software, embedded software and DevOps;
- Identify and elaborate risks and formulate strategies to avoid and mitigate these risks;
- Translate the needs of different customers into development roadmap and designs;
- Create and update our Architecture framework (.ocd);
- Work together with (junior) developers and guide & coach them;
- Conduct design reviews, software improvements and continuous integration;
- Ensuring data security (OWASP, PEN tests, etc.).

Job requirements
What do you bring along?
- A Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science;
- At least 5 years of experience in setting up complex and real-time software architectures;
- Demonstratable working experience with multiple delivery methods;
- Experience with C, C++, Python and/or Javascript;
- Demonstrated experience in security concepts such as OWASP and ENCS;
- Excellent communication skills in English (at Grid to great we communicate in both Dutch and English);
- The ambition and willingness to travel occasionally to international partners or clients for workshops and demonstrations.
